Hi, I’m Sherry.
I’m a West Texas author and illustrator, wife to the love of my life, collector of more creative hobbies than any one person probably needs, and most of all, a child of God.
For a long time, I struggled to figure out my why.
Why do I write cozy mysteries? Why do I draw quirky characters? What difference could a murder mystery or a cartoon llama possibly make in the world?
I knew the most important legacy I could leave was sharing my love for Christ. But I kept wondering where the stories and the art fit into that.
Eventually, I realized they didn’t have to change the world to matter.
I want to tell stories where the good guys, or gals, still win. Where people help each other. Where friendship and faith matter. Where the romance is clean, the language is too, and even when life gets messy, there’s still plenty of room for humor, hope, and grace.
Those are the kinds of stories I want to read, so those are the stories I want to write.
My Cedar Wells Mysteries grew out of that love for small towns, quirky people, old buildings with stories tucked into their walls, and the particular brand of humor that seems to flourish here in West Texas. I love creating characters who feel like people you might actually know, or at least people you'd happily sit beside with a cup of coffee while they tell you entirely too much about their neighbors.
When I’m not writing, I’m usually making something. I’ve spent much of my life as an educator, artist, and illustrator, and creativity has a habit of spilling from one project into another. Around here, a book idea can become an illustration, an illustration can become another story, and somewhere along the way a corgi may wander into the whole thing.
I also love doing life with the love of my life and collecting the ridiculous, funny, only-in-West-Texas stories we've woven together over the years. Real life supplies some pretty good material.
Most of all, I believe creativity is a gift God has given me to use.
I hope my books and artwork make people smile. I hope they warm hearts and lift spirits. And if something I create brings a little joy into someone's day and points them toward Him, then I think I've found my why after all.
